Abstract: | Thinking about both classical performance and classical recording continues to reflect the 'paradigm of reproduction' associated with nineteenth-century musical aesthetics: meaning is inherent in the musical work, and is reproduced in performance, while the performance is reproduced in the recording. This paper suggests that rethinking this paradigm can open up new possibilities for creative practice.
