Francis Deutsch was born in 1926 in Vienna (Austria) and came to the UK on a Kindertransport in June 1939. His experience is highly representative of what people who came to the UK as children went through.
The interviewer is Eva-Maria Thüne. She has interviewed numerous German-speaking refugees who came to the UK in the years before WWII and her main interest is in how the refugees coped with the new situation they found themselves in the UK especially in regard to the language and culture, and what if any relationship they retained with their language and culture of origin. |
