Abstract: In this keynote, John Bangs draws on his professional experience both as Education Officer at the NUT and his more recent role as an educational consultant for Education International, which is working with the OECD, to consider policy implications of what is known about teachers' professional learning. He reflects on policy decisions that have been made regarding teachers' professional development and how these relate, or not, to the evidence base in this substantive field.
